Meet Keller, a 12-week-old Australian Shepherd with a heart as big as his paws! Keller may be blind and mostly deaf, but he navigates the world with his incredible spirit and love for life. He can hear high-pitched noises. Keller’s home will need to include a confident dog buddy to guide him and be his best friend. With a little help, Keller will quickly become the most loyal and loving companion, ready for all the cuddles and playtime. If you’re looking for a special pup who sees the world through his heart, Keller is the one!
Keller is the sweetest puppy you'll ever meet, and most of the time you can't even tell that he's almost completely blind and deaf. He can see bright lights and hear some high-pitched sounds, and those senses in combination with his smell and touch help him navigate the world successfully. In less than two weeks with his foster family he mastered walking through the house without bumping into furniture and figured out how to use the doggy door. He is potty trained, sleeps through the night (with another dog), takes his favorite toys with him around the house, wrestles with the bigger dogs, loves afternoon naps outside in the sun, and can recognize when family members come into the room. He does need time to get familiarized with new surroundings and gets scared when there is a lot of movement around him, but having familiar people and dogs near him helps him relax. He loves to snuggle and give kisses, and is always ready for belly rubs and playtime.
Although Keller loves people, he would do best in a forever home with another dog that will want to be his companion. He relies on his foster dog siblings to play with him, alert him to any changes in the house, keep him company and sleep with him. When they aren't with him he tends to be more withdrawn and lonely, even if they are simply in another room or outside.
